How Many Days Until Christmas? Live Countdown
The exact number of days, hours, minutes and seconds left until Christmas Day, updated every second. The counter rolls over automatically each year, and it also works out how many shopping days and weekends you have left.
Shopping days count every remaining day up to and including Christmas Eve, when most stores still deliver their last full shopping day. Weekends count each Saturday and Sunday pair that falls before Christmas Day.
When Is Christmas 2026?
Christmas Day 2026 falls on Friday, December 25, 2026. It is a US federal holiday, so federal offices, banks and the post office are closed, and most stores close early on Christmas Eve (Thursday, December 24) and stay shut on the day itself. Because Christmas lands on a Friday in 2026, many workers get a natural four-day weekend from Thursday through Sunday — worth knowing if you are planning travel, because flights and highways are busiest on December 23 and December 27.
Key Christmas 2026 Shopping Dates
| Date | Day | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| November 27, 2026 | Friday | Black Friday — the traditional start of peak deal season, with many sales now starting online days earlier. |
| November 30, 2026 | Monday | Cyber Monday — the biggest online shopping day of the season. |
| December 19, 2026 | Saturday | Super Saturday — the last full Saturday before Christmas and one of the busiest in-store shopping days of the year. |
| Mid December 2026 | — | Ground shipping cutoffs: in recent years the last order dates for standard ground delivery by Christmas Eve have fallen around December 16-18 for the major carriers. Check the carrier's own 2026 deadline page before relying on a date. |
| December 24, 2026 | Thursday | Christmas Eve — last chance for in-store pickup and same-day courier gifts; most stores close early. |
| December 25, 2026 | Friday | Christmas Day. |
Rule of thumb from past seasons: every day you wait in December, shipping gets more expensive and the odds of a stock-out rise. The weekends counter above is the honest planning number — most people only really shop on weekends.
Plan the Gift Budget While You Count Down
A countdown is also a savings deadline. Work out what you can set aside each week between now and mid December, then split the gift list into Black Friday targets (electronics and appliances, where the deepest discounts land), Cyber Monday targets (online-only deals) and early-December in-store buys. Our free calculators and tools can help you run the numbers, and if the holidays come right after Thanksgiving travel, our guide to when Thanksgiving falls in 2026 lays out the whole season calendar in one place.
How This Countdown Works
The timer counts to midnight at the start of December 25 in your own time zone and refreshes every second. Reading this after Christmas? No problem — once December 26 arrives, the counter automatically retargets the next December 25, so the page is never out of date. The shopping-days figure counts the days remaining through Christmas Eve, and the weekends figure counts the full Saturday and Sunday pairs left before the day.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many days are there until Christmas 2026?
The live counter at the top of this page shows the exact figure for today, down to the second. As a fixed reference: December 25, 2026 is a Friday, and from November 1 there are 54 days to go; from December 1 there are 24.
How many weekends are left before Christmas?
The counter works it out for the current date. Weekends matter because they are when most people actually shop — in a typical December there are only three or four full weekends between December 1 and Christmas Day, including Super Saturday on December 19, 2026.
Is Christmas Day a federal holiday?
Yes. Christmas Day (December 25) is one of the US federal holidays, so government offices, banks and the mail close. When it falls on a weekend, the observed holiday shifts to the nearest weekday — in 2026 it falls on a Friday, so it is observed on the day itself.
When is the last day to order gifts online for Christmas delivery?
It depends on the carrier and service speed. In recent years, ground-service cutoffs have landed around December 16-18, with express services running a few days later at much higher prices. Always confirm on the carrier's current-year deadline page, and remember that "order by" dates assume no weather delays.
What day of the week is Christmas next year?
Christmas Day 2027 falls on a Saturday. This countdown will roll over to it automatically the day after Christmas 2026.
